As outlined above, genetic variances of the human 
codon might be
responsible for the expression of salt sensitivity and the development
of hypertension. This master's thesis was undertaken to search for mutations
of the human -adrenergic receptor codon and to characterize possible
alleles through sequencing of the cloned structure gene (Chapter 3).
The aim of this work was to develop a technique
for fast detection of the mutations in order to gain information on the allelic
frequencies and to be in the position to perform association and linkage studies
(Chapter 4).
