IAP was a private research institution and an esa reference lab. Founded in 1994, it pursued applied physiological research with emphasis on gravitational physiology and space medicine. It was listed as a European Space Agency Reference Lab for Bedrest, Hypokinesia, and Metabolic Balances.
The Institute ceased its activities in 2010.
